Music
Auditori Municipal Enric Granados
Enric Granados, famous musician born in Lleida in 1867.
The modern building of Auditori Municipal Enric Granados, designed by Lleida's architects Ramon Artigues and Ramon Sanabria, was built with the collaboration of numerous professionals, among whom it is worth pointing out Higini Arau, an acoustics physicist doctor. Some of its special characteristics are its prismatic shape with a triple façade and the treatment of the roof as a fourth façade, since it can be seen from Seu Vella. Built with great sobriety by means of slabs of natural stone, the air chamber has rigid insulator which ensures the acoustics of the building.
Symphonic Room
On the ground floor we find the Symphonic Room. The biggest of the two rooms in the concert hall -with a spectacular vault made up of varnished cedar panels- is a 880 square metre room and has a seating capacity of 803. Good acoustics and warmth in a room where wood, parquet and travertine create the ideal atmosphere in order to enjoy music.
Chamber Room
The second room in the concert hall, situated in the first basement, is a 360 square metre room and can hold up to 245 people. Guatambu parquet, maple wood and slightly reclining wooden seats make up a perfect place for chamber music and soloists.
Theatre season
The season arranged by Auditori Municipal Enric Granados lasts
from October to May. The concert programme allows you to enjoy
the widest-ranging array of classical music, from symphonic to
brass band music. Another permanent protagonist of the programme
is the Orquesta Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya.
Besides, there is a Christmas and New Year concert programme and
two more, one in spring and the other one in winter, which are
very popular. The Banda Municipal de Lleida also has its own season
with three performances.
Opera
The opera season takes place in three settings: the Auditori,
the Teatre Principal and the Teatre de l'Escorxador. The high
quality of the performances has made it possible to consolidate
the opera season within the national lyrical and cultural framework.
Famous productions, the performances of well-known soloists as
well as the inclusion of contemporary productions achieve the
perfect combination so as to make the programme attractive.
International Jazz Festival
If one of the musical genres is a special protagonist in the city
of Lleida, it is jazz. Throughout the year there is a consolidated
music season with the best voices and musicians in Catalunya,
Spain and abroad, which takes place either at Cafè Teatre de l'Escorxador
or at other settings. The different jazz rhythms (gospel, folk,
grove, fusion.) make up a very complete programme whose main attraction
is the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Lleida. The offer is
rounded off by other rooms like Pub Antares, which either offer
their own programmes or are the complementary stages of the consolidated
programmes.
Rock Tardor
Far from thinking that rock is for strictly leisure events, like the local festivals, Lleida has its own rock programme, which, with the generic name of Rock Tardor, gathers nationally well-known bands who help to promote local outstanding bands . It takes place in September and for five days the Pavelló Nou in Camps Elisis is filled with decibels, although there are also performances arranged at Cafè Teatre de l'Escorxador.
