Catedral de Burgos
Opening hours:
Monday through Saturday from 09:30 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 19:00. Sundays and public holidays from 09:30 to 11:45 and from 16:00 to 19:00
It is a Gothic work of art of real beauty, with stylish spires
and towers.
It was built in Romanesque style for Alfonso VI. The Gothic cathedral
that stands today was built by Fernando III and Bishop Don Mauricio.
The stylish towers are located on both sides of the main entrance.
The prettiest entrance is Sarmental, built at the end of a staircase
and where the statue of the Bishop in the mullion can be found.
At the end of the cathedral is the chapel of Condestables with
an octagonal ground plan. At the foot of the main cupola is the
Papamoscas. Another work of art of utmost interest is the golden
staircase by Gil de SiloƩ.
