Ubeda Holly Week

Holy week in Ubeda which has been declared of National Tourist Interest, for historical reasons has some personality traits that are linked both to the austerity of the Castilian Holy Week and to the colour and richness of that of Andalusia. You can observe all these details in the more than twenty brotherhoods, some of which date back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It is a pleasure to visit Ubeda at this time. Its monument-rich streets are filled with the fervour of its people, and one of the best times to experience it is during Holy Week. Don’t miss the impressive departure of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno at dawn from the Colegiata de Santa María de los Reales Alcázares church and the presentation of the Miserere or the rapid ascent of the Virgen de la Soledad up the La Merced slope carried on the bearer’s shoulders or the procession by all the brotherhoods accompanying the Holy Burial. To keep up your strength for so much time in the streets you are recommended to try the Roscos of Jesus of Nazareth, delicious cookies. They’ll taste glorious.
