Sierra de Cazorla
The sierras of the province of jaén are the perfect stage to observe the behaviour of its animal inhabitants. During September and October the rutting season occurs, whose bellowing sounds are the hoarse call of the males in heat that are the prelude to a noisy fight with their powerful antlers to win the greatest number of females.
This spectacle of nature can be seen in all its splendour in
the sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas nature Park. Wise men
poets and geographers of the Caliphate of Cordoba refered to the
forests of this nature park as the supreme jungles. They are mountainous
labyrinth of precipices and limestone, of steep canyons and streams
that comprise one of the most extensive and valuable forest masses
and wildlife habitats in southern Europe. The most interesting
itinerary for the excursionist is along the course of the River
Guadalquivir, from the reservoir of El Tranco to its headwaters.
Travelling it you will see if you are lucky red deer, mouflons,
mountain goats, otters, wildcats, vultures, eagles or peregrine
falcons. To explore it you only have to go room in one of the
many rural houses or mountain hotels there and enjoy the 214.000
hectares of the park. Nature awaits you.
