Mezquita - Mosque

The mosque was built from 780, on the site of the Visigothic church
of St-Vincent, and successively extended by the addition of new
naves until 987 when it had its current dimensions.The mosque
is without doubt a masterpiece of Muslim art.

Roman Bridge
Puente Romano - Cordoba
This bridge crosses the River Guadalquivir between the bridge
gate and the Calahorra Tower. Built under Augustus, it has been
rebuilt many times, especially under the Arabs.
Porte du Pont
Puente Romano - Córdoba
This gate resembles mostly an arc de triomphe but that was not
its main function. Built in the 16C if followed a classical plan
with large Doric columns, an entablature, a frieze and a curved
frontispiece decorated with a shield held by two warriors.
Fountains of the King and Health
C/ Del Río s/n - Priego de Córdoba
These two fountains form a stunning sight. The oldest, the Fountain
of Health, is by Francisco del Castillo (16C) and occupies the
upper part of the building.
Carnicerías Reales
Priego de Córdoba
An old 16C market and abattoir with very classical lines which
is perhaps surprising in this baroque setting. The simple stone
doorway topped with the shield of Fernández de Córdoba
has two curious ringed columns back to back.

Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos

Built in the 14C by Alfonso XI, the walls of this fortress were
the witnesses to a meeting between Christopher Columbus and the
Catholic Monarchs in 1486, as well as to the scheming of the Inquisition
which was based there until 1821.

Walls and Almodóvar gate
C/ Cairuán - Córdoba
Originally Arab the Almodóvar gate underwent serious restoration
in the 19C and an internal crenellated facade was added. To the
left of the gate notice the statue of Seneca. Don't miss the night
time illuminations.
Roman Temple
Plaza de Maimónides - Córdoba
The impressive columns that carve into the sky are the last remains
of this 1st century temple, making an arresting sight. The cannelated
columns are crowned with a Corinthian capital.
Palais de Viane

This palace was successively extended between the 14C and the
19C, which gives you an idea of the changes in civil architecture
in Cordoba in this period You will be at the heart of a unique
and surprising group of buildings on an area of about 6.500 m2.

Palacio de la Diputación
Plaza de Colón 14 - Córdoba
The «Diputación», the regional assembly, occupies
an 18C building, the old convent of Mercy, which was founded in
the 13C. The impressive facade has a large central body, two lower
wings, all painted in imitation white marble.
Royal Stables
Campo Santo de los Mártires - Córdoba
Alongside the Alcazar, Philip II founded the Royal Stables in
the 16C The current building dates from the 18C and is not open
to the public.
Faculty of Philosophy and Arts
Plaza de Cardenal Salazar - Córdoba
The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts is in the old hospital of Cardinal
Salazar. Built at the start of the 18C it has a Baroque stone
doorway decorated with the cardinal's shield.
