Granada trekking routes Pradollano

Sierra Nevada. Pradollano- Veleta. Granada trekking routes

Time: Six hours.

Our starting point is the Peñones de San Francisco, in Pradollano, where the Refugio (shelter) Universitario is. We take the road upwards, leaving the monument to the Virgen de las Nieves on the right, and the Astronomical Obsevatory of Mojón de Trigo on the left.

A bit farther there is a junction to the right wich goes down to Pradollano. This is the highest road in Europe, 3.000 m. high along 12 km.

Farther on, by the remains knows as the " Posiciones de Veleta ", probably the wildest view in the whole Sierra Nevada can be seen from here.

Walking on along the road, there is a junction to the left which leads up to the top of the Veleta, 3.398 m. high, the second highest mountain in the area.

From the top, the impressive view of La Alpujarra, the fertile plain of Granada and, in a clear day, the north of Africa and the Mediterranean sea can be seen.
