Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Merced
Plaza de la Merced s/n Huelva
This building with a Renaissance façade was erected in
1605 and proclaimed a cathedral in 1953. It houses a sculpture
of Christ from Jerusalem and a beautiful portrayal of the Virgin
with a ribbon, the patron saint of the town, by Martínez
Montañés.

Monument to Colón
Punta del Sebo
At one end of the town, on a spit of land shaped by the Rivers
Tinto and Odiel and called Punta del Sebo, stands a large sculpture
of Cristóbal Colón of the American artist Gertrude
Vanderbilt Whitney (1929).

During his journey to Huelva, Christopher Columbus stopped at
the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Ribbon, outside the town at the
end of the elegant Paseo del Conquero.

This 14C monastery, closely linked to the history of the discovery
of America, is the largest Mudéjar Gothic building in the
Huelva province.

In the typical Calle Ribera, this former mansion, where Juan Ramón
Jiménez, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, was born,
is now a venue for important literary meetings.
Santa María de la Rábida Monastery
La Rábida
The Rábida is the name of the Monastery where Cristóbal
Columbus inhabited, studied and prepared its trips to the Américas.
The Monastery is open to the public and there it is possible to
be taken a walk between such claustros who in a time was cro.
The Caravels Wharf
La Rábida
The Wharf that served like departure point so that the intrepid
navigator Cristóbal Columbus, started off to make the greater
feat of history: The Discovery of America.
