It is suggested that the traveller covers two routes
in two quite different fiestas. In Holy Week he can
see the sentiments of a town that mounts 34 processional
stages to take their faith and devotion to the streets.
This same devotion is tuned to joy when San Fernando
celebrates around 16 July its del Carmen and de la
Sal Fair. In the morning, visit the horse shows, the
rodeo events, the bullfighting fiesta in the afternoon
or the concerts at night, and to cap it off the marine
procession of Del Carmen with a large number of vessels
playing the Sancti Petri channel. In either of the
two fiestas, you can travel two routes where you will
see the history and visit the monuments of san Fernando.
The first pays tribute of José monge Cruz,
the unforgettable flamenco singer “camaron de
la Isla”. The other that of the Isle of Las
Cortes, commemorates the fact that the national government
once sat in San Fernando. When you travel these routes
mix with the islanders; visit the Naval Museum, the
islet of Sancti Petri and its fort, the mayor, the
del Carmen and la Pastora Churches; the Castle of
San Romualdo; the Historical Museum; the La Carrara
Arsenal or the Royal Astronomical Observatory which
sets the official Spanish time.
