Barbate possesses one of the most unusual coastal
areas in Andalusia, where the gold of the fine sand
beaches like Zahora, caños de meca or Pajares
joins in perfect harmony the green of La breña
y Marismas de Barbate nature Park.
These natural surroundings are also ideal for water
sports such as sailing, windsurfing or underwater
sports. In barbate one lives looking out to sea and
the traveller that passes through the village should
ask about La Almadraba, a complicated fishing art
devoted to the capture of tuna that have come from
the Arctic regions, and of you are lucky enough to
witness the harvest of tuna you will be impressed.
If you are not so lucky, don’t worry, try one
of the succulent almadraba tuna dishes in the restaurants.
Or cuttlefish, red-banded sea bream, dogfish, mackerel…Try
them all and come to the marine virgin del Carmen
procession or the Grand Sandinada.
