Puerto Real is a city with a strong maritime past with an important
naval industry.
Its foundation is owed to the Catholic Monarchs and it reaches the
peak of its splendour in the 18th century with a great artistic
life, with film and theatre festivals, photography and art competitons,
poetry recitals, etc.
The churches of San Sebastián (c.16th), Victoria (c.17th)
and of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, figure among many religious monuments.
This town lies within the Bay of Cádiz Nature Reserve, rest
and refreshment stop for flocks of migrating birds. On the outskirts,
you can visit the Canteras Park, where there is a grotto housing
an image of the Virgin of Lourdes.
