REAL PALACE OF MIRAMAR

The palace was designed by the English architect Selden Wornun, in 1888, but was completed by Benito Olasagasti, under the supervision of the architect José Goicoa. The palace had a basement and three floors, the first two were for private use and the last, an attic, was reserved for the servants. Access through one of the sides is through a Tudor arch, decorated with reliefs.In front there is a noteworthy coat of arms of the Hapsburgs, the date MDCCCXCII, and the octagonal tower.Casa de los Oficios, Portería and the Cuerpo de Guardia are particularly noteworthy within the ensemble of buildings.

CATHEDRAL OF THE GOOD SHEPEHERD


In the neo-Gothic style, it is the biggest temple in the town.
Situated in the new suburb of Amara, it is the work of the San Sebastian architect Manuel de Echave. The church covers a surface area of 1,915 square metres and was inaugurated in 1897. It has been classified as a cathedral since 1953. It has a rectangular, symmetric plan, with a Latin cross and with three naves, a transept and presbytery. It is built with masonry made from sandstone from the quarries of Monte Igueldo and has abundant decorative elements such as stained glass windows (by Juan Bautista Lázaro), gargoyles, pinnacles, etc. In its interior there is a very spacious crypt and outside, the tower built by Ramón Cortázar, reaches a height of 75 metres. The main altar is dedicated to the Good Shepherd. Here we find the statues of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, San Antonio, Santa Teresa and the Sacred Heart.

CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA

The original church was Romanesque.It was extended using Gothic and Renaissance styles between 1522 and 1560. In the 17th century, the castle was blown up and reconstruction work was started around 1740 under the supervision of Ignacio de Íbero and Francisco Ignacio de Lizardi. The church has a rectangular plan, with semicircular apse, and secondary buildings.The nave of Santa María back onto the north part. The main front is noteworthy, built with a very large vaulted niche.The church is flanked by two towers.
