The famous personage of El Cid Campeador, has
left his mark on the traditions, customs and places through which
he passed, as he left Burgos in exile towards Valencia. This route
allows tourists to discover the legendary past of this universal
Myth.
In Castilla y León, the route passes through several villages
in the province of Burgos and Soria. The Cantar del Mio Cid has
been the source for this route as it does not cut short any of
the details of his legend.
The route starts out from Vivar del Cid and continues through
Burgos to the Monasterio de Cardeña where the Campeador left behind
his family to go to Soria, after passing through Covarrubias and
Silos.
Several other villages and towns in Soria have been given the
privilege of El Cid's presence. These villages include El Burgo
de Osma, San Esteban de Gormaz and Berlanga de Duero. Here, the
people of the village offer tourists the chance to learn about
this knight's past and enjoy the wonderful beauty of the surroundings.
From Castilla y León, the route continues through the regions
of Castilla-la-Mancha, Aragón and Valencia. This route which combines
the history and culture of regions, retraces the tracks of El
Cid in the mid 11th century and informs tourists of his personage
and his involvement in the future history of Spain.
The memory of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar lives on 900 years after his
death. The legendary past, the minstrel's songs and this epic,
blend with the incomparable beauty of the landscape around Burgos
and Soria where El Cid Campeador left his mark.
