Plan a getaway to Cádiz in February to experience
a pagan and popular fiesta. Begin by attending the
La Pestiñada in the Plaza de San Francisco,
the Erizada in the La Viña neighbourhood and
the Ostionada in San Antonio Plaza.
After this splendid sampling of the best seafood
products will come the explosion of sound and colour
of the Cádiz Carnival. Countless groups and
bands are scheduled in the neighbourhoods most given
over to the carnival: La viña, Los callejones
and El Corralón. Also don’t miss the
carousel of choral groups in the Central market. From
their floats, the choruses sing tangos and ballads
to the teeming crowds around them; the sherry, shrimp
tortillas and urchins complete the atmosphere. The
Cavalcade is another must see and all week long on
the stages installed by the sponsoring associations,
there are countless competitions. When Friday rolls
around again the La viña neighbourhood is again
filled with joy and stays that way until the fireworks
conclude one of the best and most entertaining fiestas
in Andalusia.
