Irún information
Irun is one of the most significant city on the bank of the Bidasoa river due to its industrial and commercial character.
Only 3 Km separte Irún from Hondarribia.Facing both of them the French city of Hendaya.Even if Irún it is a quite new city we can find important vestiges from the past.Like the church of Santa María del Juncal , from the XVI , with a Baroque façade and a Romanesque image of the saint.
Close to the square of Urdanibia we find the hermitage of Santa Elena, built on top of a Roman necropolis and temple.
From the border posts that are near to the city, we can continue our Basque Coast excursion through the french towns of Sokoa, San Juan de Luz, Biarritz and Bayona.
