Sierra
de Segura. Santiago de la Espada or Santiago de Pontones
and its surroundings. Jaén trekking routes
|
Time: Three hours.
We shall leave Santiago along the forest track that leads to Pontones,
walking up the narrow course of the river Zumeta. Then we shall cross
a tributary of the river and after crossing a bridge we shall walk on
to the right, along the bank of the Cañada Hermosa brook which
at the end descends very quickly to flow into the river Segura. After
enjoying the landscape, we shall come back to the track and walk on for
about 3 km. until reaching a hill. The Pico de Almorchón will be
on our left, 1,915 m. high, accessible by the road.
From the top, La Maltea, La Nogalera and Los Teatinos country estates
can be seen, and a track which makes its way to Santiago. Before taking
it we can approach Los Cuartos´ brook on our right and follow its
course until meeting the Zumeta, which we can descend in order to arrive
at Santiago.
