Córdoba Airport is situated six kilometres from the city centre
and is classified as a third category airport. In aeronautical terms,
it is an aerodrome open to national traffic and international traffic
from Schengen Pact countries and provides no ATS (Air Navigation control)
services. At present it is used for agricultural treatment companies,
transfers of organs to and from the transplant centre at the Reina Sofía
hospital, military flights, charter passenger flights, aerial photography,
flying courses, parachuting schools and other types of aerial work.
The airport has a single runway, 1,380 by 45 metres, and an apron measuring
31,022 square metres. The passenger terminal is situated on the ground
floor of the main building and comprises departures and arrivals halls,
cafeterias, services and offices. The airport also has a service building
and a specific area for general aviation with hangars, warehouses and
offices.
The existing traffic at Córdoba Airport is predominantly general aviation
flights. In 2003 it handled 16,804 passengers, with a marked concentration
in the summer months. Córdoba Airport is amongst the top five Spanish
airports that have experienced the greatest proportional growth in recent
years in terms of passenger numbers. Aircraft movements totalled 8,094
operations, of which only 7,8 per cent were related to commercial aviation.
